THEME: Being out of order; Teamwork; Respecting and following protocol SCRIPTURE REFERENCE: 1 Corinthians 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order. TIME: 10 minutes GENRE: Drama SUGGESTED USE: Great as a sermon enhancer, conversation starter for a bible class, worship service, leadership conference, team meeting, team building conference, church business meeting, church departmental meeting, SYNOPSIS: First Church is planning a “Family Day” for its church members. It has established a committee to coordinate and help oversee the day. However, one of the person’s on the committee doesn’t understand the meaning of teamwork and wants to “run the whole show”, which leads to confusion within the church. SETTING: Small meeting room in the church. PROPS: Table, chairs, paper. Women need purses. COSTUMES: Comfortable – characters are meeting just for a few minutes before the start of the church’s bible class.
Characters: Nancy - Outgoing, somewhat overbearing. She loves to run things and be in charge. s tear drop, sorrow. (on trial for assaulting his former boss). Jonathan – An Elder (or associate minister) at his church. Theresa - Nancy’s friend who is on the Family Day committee. Mario - Deacon at the church who is also on the Family Day committee. He is somewhat impatient with Nancy because she keeps repeating the same behavior. Felecia - Leading role in the skit. She is the committee chairperson.
BELOW ARE EXCERPTS FROM THE SKIT - You may order the complete skit for $5.00 Felecia: (Standing at the head of the table) I know we only have about ten minutes before Bible Class starts but I had to meet with you all tonight briefly because there seems to be some confusion concerning our upcoming Family Day.
Jonathan: It’s not about how good the group is. It’s about how out of order it was for someone to overstep their boundaries, go over Felecia and the Pastor’s head and hire someone. Nancy: (attitude) Out of order? Felecia: (trying to keep things from getting out of control; making gestures with her hand as is to signal for calmness) Alright. (brief pause) Nancy, may I assume it was you who contacted the group and possibly you who told the kitchen committee that this year we will be charging for the dinner?
Mario: Well, who authorized you to (using his hands to gesture quotation marks) “take the initiative”? (agitated) You made the same big mess… Felecia: (interrupting) Okay, we are not here to point fingers but to bring order back. COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL All Rights Reserved - EXCERPTS ONLY
