FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS
by Pamela R. Smith
SCRIPTURE REFERENCE: Esther 4:11-14 11 All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days. 12 And they told to Mordecai Esther’s words. 13 Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king’s house, more than all the Jews. 14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this? (Esther chapters 3-4) TIME: 7 minutes GENRE: Drama SUGGESTED USE: Great as a sermon enhancer or worship service when teaching on Esther, leadership or purpose. I was calling to see if you have had an opportunity to check your calendar for another date when I can come to your office. VOICEMAIL: Next message, Tuesday 7:30 a.m. HENRY: (tone is authoritative, curt, brusque) Ernestine, this is Henry. I need to talk to you about Melvin. It’s time for him to go.
ERNESTINE: My hands are tied. Melvin hasn’t filed a grievance or anything. MADELYN: Yes, but he has tried to schedule a meeting with you. ERNESTINE: All I can do is reschedule his last appointment and see what is going on. MADELYN: That’s a start but let me put this bug in your ear .... you need to ask yourself why did God see fit to put you here? This is nothing short of a miracle.... Look at you. You oversee every department, including human resource. Ernestine, you may be here for such a time as this. You are here for purpose, not just so you can increase but so that God’s people and this company can increase. Open your eyes and see God’s hand in this. I mean really see His hand.
