Her disobedience has gotten her in trouble. EXCERPTS ONLY --- Copyrighted Material GRANDMA: Melanie, you sure have been unusually quiet tonight. Is everything alright? MELANIE: (her arms are folded) Yes, Maam. (looking up at Vicki) Mom, since we’re finished eating can I go to my room now? VICKI: No, you may not. This is family night. (placing the sliced pie in front of Melanie) MELANIE (blows loudly to show her frustration as she pushes the saucer away from her) VICKI: That attitude right there is why you are still in hot water. MELANIE: (blows loudly again) Here we go again. Can we please just forget it? EDWARD: Forget it! Melanie, you deliberately disobeyed us and set out to deceive us. How many times do I have to tell you that your choices today can affect your opportunities tomorrow? ***************************************************************************** MELANIE: Mistake, choice, whatever. You’re not ever going to let me live it down. EDWARD: Baby, it’s not that we won’t let you live it down. It’s your actions that may be a constant reminder every time you apply for a job, college, and so forth. We can blackball ourselves before anyone else ever does. GRANDMA: That’s right, precious. God’s plan for your life is carefully weaved and when we decide to pull at the thread, it can unravel on us—outside of God’s will. ***************************************************************************** MELANIE: But there is so much pressure. EDWARD: I know, but anyone who is pressuring you to go against the law or against God’s Word, is not someone you should allow to order your steps, because when I picked you from jail no one else was there. No one else was even charged with anything. MELANIE: That’s because they left me.
